About library


icon The school founder, Dr. Chang chi-yun, regarded the library as the life line of university and invested huge amount of budget purchasing a large number of books. Ta Chang Building was established in 1963, using its second floor as Bow-Lan library. In 1972, the library became the independent building, that was, the completion of Ta Tien Building. The library was located in the center of Hwa-Kang campus about 3.994 square meters and provided a convenient and graceful academic research environment for students and faculty. In Match 1999, the library was relocated to Hsiao-Feng Memorial Library, occupying a total area of 14.170 square meters and proving perfect plans of movable lines and arrangement of space. It is not only to depend on the subject to divide every material to each floor, but also to set the specialized area by the types of the materials providing variety of information services which promotes the library a diversity and functional one.

icon Books¡G

The library has the collection of 86, 0000 books and the budgets are adjusted yearly according to the actual needs of the readers.

icon Periodical¡G

The periodical collection has been accumulated 5800 titles as of 2004. The academic periodicals are recommended by the teachers, faculty and students for the professional researches.

icon Non-book materials¡G

Besides the traditional paper collections, we have the collections of non-book materials. The library has been adding up all kinds of materials ceaselessly. The non-book materials have been amounted to more than 50,000 rolls which include microfiche, microform reels, tapes, records, cassettes, CD and so on. Preciously, we also have books of Dun-huang, Chinese relic, pedigree, and other valuable collections which are stored in the Rare Collection Room on the seventh floor. In consideration of limited space and to make up the insuffiecncy collection, the library has ordered a lot of Chinese and foreign language cd databases, Therefore, the types of materials have already reached more than 50 categories.

icon Online databases¡G

The library has subscribed to about 40 online databases providing the most convenient ways to readers for information searching. We have joined the EES-Electronic Subscription. We not only can take advantages of original 50 periodicals in print, but also can search and download 1700 electronic periodicals. Meanwhile, we have established an internet environment and are forging ahead to be an electronic library.

 


Services


icon Circulations¡G

Readers can borrow books by the valid ID cards at the circulation desk, which is located on the second floor near by the entrance. On the off days, readers can return books by throwing the books into the return box which is set on the hall outside of the library. If the books are lost or damadged and detective, users must compensate according to the regulations of the library.

icon Reading service¡G

Reading in the library adopts the open bookshelf; users can read freely in the open time. The seats, equipping with the network nodes, distribute to each floor and provide users who carry the notebook to search information over the internet.

icon Reference service¡G

Reference service is one of the important methods for achieving the function of study and education. The reference service department was established in April, 1977, and builds a bridge between users and materials. Users can make any specific request face to face with the librarians, by telephone (Extension 438), writing form, and e-mail. The library also holds the "Library usage explanation" for freshmen and those people who are not familiar with methods of catalogue research. Now the library has opened the cd database for assisting the users to get information which they need.

icon Interlibrary Loan¡G

We are one of the members of the Interlibrary Cooperation Association. Through the National Interlibrary Loan System, users can borrow or copy the materials by reference service desk to other libraries which has joined the interlibrary cooperation organization.

icon Exchange and gift¡G
(1). The library budgets every year to purchase books which are published by our school and collects the academic journals from each department. These academic journals are exchanged and given to other libraries for promoting the cultural exchanges.
(2). We arrange the duplicate copies of materials and send them to the libraries of the community to improve the cultural level of the society.

icon Popularization service¡G
(1). Book exhibition, e.g. general exhibition, topic exhibition.
(2). Interlibrary meeting.
(3). Introducing the library to visitors.
